Ajax agrees €9m deal for left‑back Caio Henrique
Ajax have reached a principle agreement with AS Monaco for the transfer of 28‑year‑old left‑back Caio Henrique, with a base fee of nine million euros that could rise to 9.5 million euros through bonuses. The Dutch club aims to secure the Brazilian defender before the summer window closes.
A personal contract has not yet been signed. Jordi Cruijff is discussing a deal with Henrique that could run until mid‑2029 or 2030, and the player has shown openness by liking fan comments on Instagram.
Henrique has been with AS Monaco since the summer of 2020, when the French side paid eight million euros for his services. He has made 211 appearances for Monaco and recorded 41 assists, and his current contract runs until next summer.
Before joining Monaco, Henrique spent time at Atlético Madrid, Grêmio and Fluminense, and he featured in a single match for the Spanish club.
If the transfer is completed, Henrique is expected to add a strong quality boost to Ajax’s left‑back position.
Ajax’s current options on the left flank include Owen Wijndal, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Lucas Rosa, while Oleksandr Zinchenko also featured before a severe knee injury.
Tomiyasu and Zinchenko are set to depart the club this summer, and Ajax have indicated they are not opposed to a possible exit for Wijndal.
The final personal agreement will determine whether Henrique joins Ajax and signs a contract extending to 2029 or 2030, potentially reinforcing the squad ahead of the next campaign.
