Ajax eyes Brandt after Ter Stegen talks heat up

Ajax have contacted Julian Brandt as the club explores a move for the transfer-free midfielder. The Dutch club reached out to the player’s camp to gauge his interest in a switch to Amsterdam, 30, completed 29 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. His contract with Dortmund expired on 30 June, making him available on a free transfer.

The report notes that Brandt recently received a surprising request, though the nature of the offer remains undisclosed. Ajax’s interest follows the club is close to signing Marc-André Ter Stegen.

Brandt’s wage demands could complicate matters for Ajax. Last season he earned around €8 million at Dortmund, a figure that may prove challenging for the Amsterdam side. It is also unclear whether the player himself is keen on the move.

WAZ adds that clubs from Italy, Spain and England have also shown interest in Brandt. The timing coincides with Ajax’s ongoing pursuit of Ter Stegen, suggesting the club is aiming to make a significant statement this summer.
