Ajax's probe triggers immediate exit of director Marijn Beuker
Ajax announced on Tuesday that director of football Marijn Beuker has been dismissed with immediate effect, ending his brief tenure that began in December 2023. The decision follows a formal approval by the club’s Supervisory Board on Monday morning after an internal investigation.
The possible departure of Beuker first surfaced on Saturday, according to reports from De and Algemeen Dagblad. The Supervisory Board heard several stories about his working methods shortly after his appointment and launched an extensive inquiry.
On Sunday the board concluded that a separation was unavoidable. The formal decision was recorded on Monday morning and communicated to the executive board.
The club also accused Beuker of listing false statements on his LinkedIn profile and embellishing his CV. He and former colleague Alex Kroes were blamed for recruiting players such as Oscar Gloukh, Raúl Moro, Ko Itakura and Kasper Dolberg who allegedly did not meet performance expectations.
Beuker joined Ajax in December 2023 after being recommended by Louis van Gaal, who was tasked with rolling out a considered football vision in Amsterdam. His appointment was intended to strengthen the club’s strategic direction.
Following Alex Kroes’s exit, Beuker took an active role in the transfer policy, but his responsibilities were later narrowed by the arrival of Jordi Cruijff. Cruijff now oversees Jong Ajax and Ajax Under‑19, leaving Beuker primarily involved with the younger youth squads.
Ajax said it will formalise Beuker’s departure publicly in the coming days.
