Alarming statistic threatens Mbappé's Ballon d'Or

At thirty‑seven, Kylian Mbappé is at his closest ever recorded approach to the Ballon d’Or. Ranked second, just behind Harry Kane, captain of the French national team, he achieves the best ranking of his career. Yet, the Frenchman now totals nine appearances in the top 10 without ever having lifted it.

A consistency that weighs

Mbappé discovered the top 10 in 2017. Since then, he has returned to it almost every season: seventh, fourth, sixth, ninth, again sixth, third, seventh and then second. This series of positions confirms his lasting place among the world elite.

At twenty‑seven, he still has time to win the trophy. Harry Kane won it at thirty‑three, Karim Benzema at thirty‑four, and Lionel Messi at thirty‑six, showing that age is not a decisive obstacle.

The danger lies more in the competition, injuries and the need to combine an exceptional individual season with a victorious collective campaign. Without these two components, the conquest of the Ballon d’Or remains out of reach.

Mbappé has scored forty‑two goals in forty‑four matches across all competitions, but that was not enough, Real Madrid having not won any major title this season. The lack of a collective trophy weighs heavily on his record.

The Frenchman knows what he lacks: a campaign where his personal performances are accompanied by a Champions League title or a major victory with the French national team. Turning those statistics into trophies then becomes essential.

His ninth appearance in the top 10 illustrates an exceptional regularity, but brutally reminds that consistency does not guarantee glory. The weight of expectation grows with each new place of honour.
