Alec van Hoorenbeck signs three-year deal with Hajduk Split

27-year-old Belgian defender Alec van Hoorenbeck has signed a three-year contract with Croatian side Hajduk Split, a move confirmed by FC Twente on Thursday. The transfer ends his short-term spell at the Dutch club, where he was deemed surplus after a loan at Heracles Almelo that ended in Eredivisie relegation.

The move to Croatia had been reported as a possibility a few days earlier. Van Hoorenbeck missed the start of FC Twente’s pre-season because he was surplus to requirements, with fellow defenders Ruud Nijstad and Robin Pröpper ahead in the pecking order.

FC Twente acquired the defender in the summer of 2023 from KV Mechelen. During his time in Enschede he made 46 official appearances and found the net four times.

Last season he spent on loan at Heracles Almelo, a side that suffered relegation from the Eredivisie. The experience left him seeking a fresh start elsewhere.

Speaking on Hajduk Split’s official website, van Hoorenbeck said, “I am happy to be here. This is a new chapter in my career.” He added that the club is known in Belgium as a great club with a rich tradition and loyal supporters.

Hajduk Split finished second in the Croatian league last campaign. Van Hoorenbeck expressed optimism that he and the club will achieve success together.
