Anderlecht close to appointing Lino Godinho as head coach
RSC Anderlecht is reportedly on the verge of naming Portuguese coach Lino Godinho as its new head trainer, with the possibility of his arrival as early as this Tuesday together with members of his staff. Sport director Antoine Sibierski is said to have been convinced by Godinho’s profile.
According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the search for a new Anderlecht head coach has entered a decisive phase, with Godinho emerging as the leading candidate. Tavolieri notes that the club’s board is evaluating options rapidly.
Lino Godinho was born in Portugal and never played professional football at the highest level. He began his career as a video analyst and tactical staff member, developing expertise in match preparation, data analysis and tactical organization.
He later worked as an assistant to Francesco Farioli, gaining a reputation as a tactically strong aide. Through this partnership he contributed to teams that emphasized high pressing, structured build‑up and disciplined defensive shape.
Godinho’s assistant roles included stints at Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük and subsequently at Alanyaspor. He later joined the technical staff of OGC Nice and AFC Ajax, where his influence on the playing style was noted.
If appointed, Godinho would become Anderlecht’s first head coach without prior experience leading a top‑flight senior side. The move is described as risky but aligns with a desire for a modern football vision inspired by Farioli’s methods.
The club also wishes to implement a classic four‑man defensive system under Godinho. This tactical shift would complement the data‑driven preparation emphasized by the new staff.
Should the agreement be finalised, Godinho will inherit high expectations from Anderlecht supporters seeking attractive and successful football. The club’s fans have long awaited a revival of compelling play, and the appointment could mark a pivotal shift.
