Anderlecht's coach hunt narrows to unnamed candidate

RSC Anderlecht’s search for a new head coach has accelerated in recent weeks. Sporting director Antoine Sibierski narrowed the shortlist to two candidates, one of whom was Karel Geraerts, before discarding Geraerts and leaving only a single unnamed candidate now.

Sibierski prefers to handle dossiers discreetly, releasing information only in small portions. The Frenchman was immediately tasked with outlining a new sporting direction for the club. That direction includes appointing a trainer who can guide Anderlecht back to the Belgian top and fit the club’s philosophy.

Geraerts’ removal from the list suggests Anderlecht has already chosen its preferred candidate. With only one name remaining on the shortlist, an official appointment appears to be a matter of time. Anderlecht cannot afford prolonged uncertainty as the preparation for the new season draws near.

European commitments are also imminent, adding pressure to finalize the coaching hire. Sibierski wants the new trainer to begin work as quickly as possible to avoid delays in the sporting preparation. The main question now is not whether a new coach has been found, but when the club will reveal the mysterious candidate.

All indications point to the decision having already been taken behind the scenes. Anderlecht’s home ground, Lotto Park, will host the upcoming season under the guidance of the soon‑to‑be‑announced coach.
