Arsenal probe Bayern's 18‑year‑old after Hoeneß’s criticism

Arsenal have joined a list of Premier League clubs enquiring about 18‑year‑old Lennart Karl after Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß publicly criticised the midfielder.
A photograph taken by Hoeneß sparked media attention by showing him criticising the young talent.
“I’m planning to have a serious talk with Lennart Karl,” Hoeneß said, adding that “he’s far from being a superstar. The young players need humility. Comparisons to Olise are not doing him any good; there’s still a world of difference between them.”
Premier League clubs show interest
Christian Falk reported for CF Bayern Insider that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have phoned Bayern to explore a possible signing of Karl.
Falk noted that Hoeneß is not involved in Bayern’s day‑to‑day operations and that the club’s staff remain confident in Karl, insisting they still want to keep him as injuries make him essential.

Karl repaid the criticism with a strong display in Bayern’s next match against FC Magdeburg, providing the assist for the fourth goal in a 6‑1 victory.
He is valued at roughly £50 million and has not yet discussed a contract extension with Bayern, meaning a potential deal would not be financially prohibitive for Arsenal.
This season Karl has made 12 appearances for Bayern, scoring once and assisting twice.
He also featured in a cameo against Arsenal last month and had previously scored against the Gunners last season.
While Premier League leaders are clearly aware of his talent, whether an imminent transfer materialises remains uncertain.
