Arthur Piedfort near €4m move as French clubs show interest
Arthur Piedfort, the defensive midfielder of KVC Westerlo and Belgian U21 international, is reportedly on the brink of a transfer valued at around €4 million. French Ligue 1 sides AJ Auxerre and AS Saint‑Étienne are among the clubs said to be pursuing the 22‑year‑old as the summer window approaches.
Piedfort has attracted attention from several foreign clubs, with reports indicating interest from England, Germany and Italy in addition to France. His performances this season have kept him in the spotlight, earning a place in the weekly “team of the week” and impressing analysts.
According to sources, AJ Auxerre is prepared to push for the signing and is willing to meet Westerlo’s financial expectations. Westerlo, nicknamed De Kemphanen, is said to have a €4 million offer on the table that could satisfy the club’s demand for “butter on the fish”.
AS Saint‑Étienne is also monitoring Piedfort closely, a club that previously recruited Lucas Stassin from Westerlo’s “Westel Kuipje”. The French side’s scouting network has identified the Belgian defensive midfielder as a potential addition for the upcoming season.
Two Ligue 1 clubs are reportedly interested in securing Piedfort’s services, although their identities have not been disclosed. The prospective deal could generate €8 million or more for Westerlo, according to the reports.
Piedfort, a product of PSV Eindhoven’s youth system, has been a regular feature for the Belgian U21 national team. His current contract situation suggests he may be in the final months of his Jupiler Pro League stint before a possible move abroad.
Further details are expected in the coming hours or days as clubs finalize their offers.
