AS Roma appoint Tony D’Amico as sporting director

AS Roma have announced that Tony D’Amico will assume the role of sporting director on 1 July, succeeding Frederic Massara who departed after one season. Maurizio Lombardo will continue as interim sporting director until D’Amico takes charge. D’Amico arrives after four successful seasons with Atalanta, where he oversaw the acquisitions of Rasmus Hojlund from Sturm Graz, Ederson from Salernitana and Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig. Hojlund later left Atalanta for Manchester United in an €80 million deal in 2023, Lookman moved to Atletico Madrid for €35 million, and Ederson is poised to join Manchester United for €45 million with one year remaining on his Atalanta contract. Other signings under D’Amico at Atalanta included Charles De Ketelaere, Gianluca Scamacca and Mateo Retegui. Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi and sporting director Tony D’Amico were photographed by Michael Regan, with the caption crediting Michele Maraviglia; the image shows Hojlund of Manchester United in action against Crystal Palace FC in a Premier League match. AS Roma will face VFB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League, and the club’s statement welcomed D’Amico and wished him success in his new adventure.
