Aston Villa negotiate £35‑40m for Curtis Jones with Liverpool

Aston Villa are in negotiations with Liverpool for midfielder Curtis Jones, with the Merseyside club reportedly demanding a £35‑40 million fee, according to reports first flagged by Indy Kaila on X. The talks come as Villa seek to strengthen their midfield ahead of the Champions League. Indy Kaila first reported on X that Aston Villa have entered talks with Liverpool over Curtis Jones. The negotiations focus on securing the midfielder for the Midlands club. Liverpool have set a price tag of £35‑40 million for Jones, despite him not being a guaranteed starter at Anfield. The fee reflects the club’s valuation of the homegrown talent. Jones is entering the final year of his contract, a factor that normally reduces transfer costs. Liverpool, however, are holding firm and appear to be betting on Premier League buyers’ desperation. Aston Villa need a partner for Youri Tielemans in midfield, and director Roberto Olabe, alongside manager Unai Emery, are weighing the option. The club’s hierarchy is cautioned against overpaying for a backup player. Inter Milan have shown interest in Jones, submitting a £21 million bid that Liverpool rejected. Jones has expressed a desire to play Serie A football, adding another layer to the transfer puzzle. Villa, already competing in the Champions League, also have the alternative of targeting Manchester City’s Tijjani Reijnders, who fits Emery’s system and may command a similar premium. Walking away from the negotiations would send a clear message that Villa will not be bullied by Liverpool’s valuation. It would also preserve resources for strategic squad building.
