Aston Villa Target Real Sociedad Keeper Álex Remiro
Aston Villa have renewed their pursuit of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro as a possible successor to Emiliano Martínez. Manager Unai Emery is evaluating options ahead of Martínez’s departure.
Juventus are actively courting Martínez, prompting Villa to accelerate their search for a replacement. Villa had previously identified Remiro last summer, but the move stalled when Martínez chose to remain at Villa Park.
Remiro, 31, has conceded 62 goals in 39 La Liga matches this season and recorded four clean sheets. The statistics reflect a challenging campaign for the Basque keeper in San Sebastián.
Real Sociedad are prepared to sell Remiro for a fee between €8 million and €10 million, matching the €9 million valuation reported by Transfermarkt. The agency Feel Winner is handling negotiations ahead of the goalkeeper’s contract expiry in 2027.
Emery prefers a goalkeeper who can play out from the back under pressure, and Remiro is noted for his comfort with the ball and ability to deliver passes to midfield. This aligns with Villa’s tactical requirements.
A deal under €10 million would keep the club within profit and sustainability watchdog limits while freeing cash for other positions. The financial terms are seen as a cut‑price option for the West Midlands side.
