Atlético Madrid lodges FIFA complaint against Barcelona
Atlético Madrid announced it will lodge a formal complaint with FIFA against FC Barcelona, with CEO Gil Marín confirming the move to the Spanish news agency EFE. The Spanish champions are seeking to reinforce their squad with Argentine striker Julián Álvarez.
Atlético accuses Barcelona of negotiating for Álvarez while he remained under contract and within the protected period. The club claims this breaches transfer regulations.
“It is our responsibility to defend the interests of Atlético Madrid, and therefore we file a complaint against Barcelona,” Marín said. He added that the club must protect its rights.

“Barcelona shows no respect for us. They think they can belittle us, that we are weak or stupid,” Marín continued. He argued that Barcelona’s actions reveal their true character. Atlético has no intention of letting the 26‑year‑old leave. “He knows our position well: Atlético will not transfer his rights. He is a fantastic player and we are proud he plays for us,” Marín stated. Álvarez told reporters, “I want to fulfil my dreams. I have spoken with the people at the club, with the people I must speak to. The best for my future is to make a transfer.” Marín expressed regret over the striker’s comments, saying, “I regret his words. It was today the day of Messi, the day of Argentina, not that of Julián.”
