Atletico Madrid's €40m gamble on Lee Kang-in after PSG titles
Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in, 25, for a fee reported at just over €40 million, including bonuses. The deal, confirmed by , will see the player move before the summer transfer window closes.
Lee Kang-in signed for Atletico Madrid after spending two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain. His contract with PSG was set to run for two more years, meaning the transfer occurs two years before its expiry.
Lee arrived at PSG from Valencia in 2023, having previously featured for the Spanish side. During his time in Paris, he was used primarily as a rotation option, accumulating 124 appearances, 16 goals and 16 assists across all competitions.
Last summer, Lee was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, but Luis Enrique insisted on retaining the South Korea international. He therefore remained at PSG for the 2023‑24 campaign.
In the most recent season, Lee featured in 39 games across all competitions, starting 18 Ligue 1 matches but none in the UEFA Champions League. Paris Saint‑Germain secured back‑to‑back Champions League titles while he played a bit‑part role.
Atletico Madrid will add a play‑making midfielder with experience in Ligue 1 and European competition. For PSG, his departure frees a squad member ahead of the final year of his contract.
