Atletico Madrid says Julian Alvarez not for sale
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo declared Julian Alvarez is not for sale. The statement came after Real Madrid announced a €150 million bid for the Argentine forward was rejected. Barcelona were also reported as a potential destination for Alvarez.
Real Madrid confirmed the €150 million offer had been turned down by Atletico Madrid. Cerezo told the TV programme El Chiringuito that the club will not entertain any purchase of Alvarez.
Atletico Madrid posted a social‑media message that began with laughing emojis and then listed four clarifications. The club said a video of the Pope was cut off where he mentioned being an Atleti fan, and that they do not thank Real Madrid for anything. It added that Atletico does not study or evaluate any offer for Julian and mocked Real Madrid’s attempts to out‑laugh Barcelona. A follow‑up note accused Real Madrid of stealing players from Atletico’s academy. The accompanying photo was credited to Fran Santiago.
Atletico pointed to Alvarez’s €500 million release clause as a barrier to any transfer. Barcelona are said to be willing to spend up to €120 million, far below the clause. Cerezo’s stance leaves both Real Madrid and Barcelona without a realistic path to sign the striker.
