Austria's men's team achieves a new FIFA ranking under Ralf Rangnick
While the Austrian men’s team climbed one place to 22nd in the FIFA ranking after recent successes in the UEFA Nations League, the competition in the lower tables remains further behind. Coach Ralf Rangnick thus celebrated the best placement of his more than four‑year tenure so far.
Improvement in the FIFA Ranking
The eleven under Rangnick improved by one position and now sit at 22nd, the best result since September 2025. With this, Austria overtook Iran, which had lost two friendlies in September.
In the ongoing UEFA Nations League Austria recorded two wins against Israel and Kosovo as well as two draws against Ireland and Kosovo. The remaining opponents Ireland and Israel are ranked 56th and 77th respectively.
The ranking of 7 October 2026 shows Spain at the top, followed by Argentina and France. Austria ranks just behind Norway, Uruguay and Denmark, but only just ahead of Iran, Ecuador and Egypt.
