Ayoni Santos linked with Dutch giants, Sparta asks millions
Ayoni Santos, the 20‑year‑old midfielder who debuted for Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie last season, is being courted by clubs from the Dutch top as he approaches the summer transfer window, with Sparta willing to negotiate a fee of several million euros.
Sparta Rotterdam's management confirmed to VoetbalPrimeur that clubs from the Dutch top have already expressed concrete interest in Santos. Several clubs have reportedly contacted Sparta, and a formal offer for the midfielder is expected shortly.
Santos, who earned his first cap for Cape Verde, is also open to a new challenge after a solid debut season in the Eredivisie. His international status adds to the appeal for clubs seeking a young, experienced midfielder.
The 20‑year‑old is under contract with Sparta until mid‑2029, giving the club leverage in negotiations. Sparta has indicated it will set the transfer fee at several million euros, reflecting the player's potential value.
Ayoni Santos joined Sparta in 2012 and progressed through the club's full youth system. He made his senior debut on 19 October in a victorious away fixture against FC Groningen.
Since his debut, Santos has become a regular fixture in the midfield under former head coach Maurice Steijn. Steijn has since departed, but Santos' role in the squad remains integral.
The ongoing transfer chatter includes mentions of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord in the latest #DoneDeal discussions. These clubs are among those believed to be monitoring the midfielder's situation.
Sparta has signalled its willingness to facilitate a departure, provided the asking price aligns with its valuation. A formal bid is therefore anticipated to arrive in the coming weeks.
