Bakker's Korean leap leaves Telstar searching for new captain

🇳🇱

31‑year‑old centre‑back Danny Bakker has terminated his contract with Telstar and signed for FC Anyang in South Korea, defender’s first overseas venture after spells at ADO Den Haag, Roda JC, NAC Breda and Telstar.

Telstar had hoped to retain their captain, but Bakker made clear his ambition for a ‘beautiful foreign adventure’. The club’s desire to keep him was overtaken by his personal goal.

FC Anyang, sitting seventh in the K‑League, confirmed Bakker’s signature this week. The length of his contract was not disclosed.

Bali United launched a last‑minute attempt to acquire the defender, with coach Johnny Jansen and Dutch teammates Jort van der Sande, Jordy Bruijn and Mike Hauptmeijer involved. The bid ultimately failed, leaving the Indonesian side empty‑handed.

For Bakker, the transfer represents his inaugural experience abroad, expanding his career beyond the Dutch leagues. He will travel to South Korea shortly to be presented by FC Anyang.

Telstar must now appoint a new captain to lead the squad. The departure creates a leadership void that the club will need to address.

FC Anyang adds an experienced Dutch centre‑back to strengthen their defensive options for the remainder of the season. Bakker’s arrival could provide the solidity the club seeks as they aim to improve their league standing.
