Barça lock in Christensen until 2028, extending defensive stability
FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday that Danish centre‑back Andreas Christensen has signed a new contract extending his stay until 30 June 2028, adding two seasons to a deal that was set to expire in 2026. The renewal secures the continuity of a proven top‑level defender for the club.
The agreement runs until 30 June 2028, effectively tying the 30‑year‑old to the Blaugrana for two additional seasons. A public signing ceremony will be organised soon at the club’s offices.
Christensen arrived at Camp Nou in the summer of 2022 after leaving Chelsea on a free transfer. He will now begin his fifth season wearing the Barcelona shirt.
Across his first four campaigns, the Danish defender has logged 98 official appearances in all competitions. His presence has become a staple of the back line.
During that period, Barcelona secured three La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey trophy, and three Spanish Super Cups. Christensen’s role in those successes has been highlighted by his tactical intelligence.
The defender’s final year was disrupted by a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. After 158 days of recovery, he returned for the season‑closing league match at Mestalla.
Known for his ability to play the ball out from defence and his versatility, Christensen will remain a fundamental pillar of Barcelona’s sporting project. The club’s management views the extension as a strategic move to maintain defensive stability.
