Barcelona agree deal for Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas

Barcelona are set to complete the signing of 19-year-old Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas. The move would mark the club’s second summer arrival.

Multiple clubs pursued Salinas this summer. Newcastle, Bologna, PSG, Eintracht Frankfurt, Atletico Madrid, Porto and Bayer Leverkusen were all linked with the Spain youth international. Racing Santander’s release clause is valued at €8 million.

The Blaugrana are exploring ways to reduce the financial outlay. A potential solution involves sending one of Barcelona’s reserve-team players to Racing on loan. Racing Santander prepare for promotion to a higher division, making the loan option attractive.

Salinas has already agreed terms with Barcelona. Hansi Flick will oversee his pre-season integration, and he will receive a first-team licence. The teenager would join under Flick’s project, not just the club’s brand.

Salinas is a left-footed defender with attacking output. He has provided seven assists this season for Racing Santander. Barcelona’s interest in Joao Cancelo remains separate and ongoing.
