Barcelona dream collides with Dortmund reality for Asllani
23‑year‑old Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani posted a nostalgic Instagram photo on the Sportplatz Hohenschonhausen in Berlin, recreating a 2008‑09 Barcelona jersey picture and captioning it “Same place, different time”, while his pending €30 million move to Borussia Dortmund looms after an impressive season.
The Instagram post showed Asllani standing on Berlin’s Sportplatz Hohenschonhausen, mirroring a childhood photograph taken at the same spot. He wore the Barcelona jersey he first wore in the 2008‑09 season, underscoring his long‑standing connection to the Catalan club.
In the caption he wrote “Same place, different time”, a simple message that resonated with Barcelona supporters. Asllani has repeatedly voiced his ambition, stating “My dream club has always been FC Barcelona; I’ve always wanted to play there. I’d like to play in the Champions League someday. It’s important to have dreams and work toward achieving them,”.
Earlier this year, during the Bundesliga winter break, he travelled to the RCDE Stadium to watch Barcelona beat Espanyol 2‑0. The match, a La Liga victory, highlighted the club he idolises and reinforced his desire to join them.
On the field, Asllani contributed 10 goals and 11 assists for Hoffenheim this season, marking him as one of the Bundesliga’s emerging attacking talents. His statistical output has attracted interest from several clubs, but Borussia Dortmund are currently leading negotiations.
Dortmund are closing in on a deal estimated at around €30 million to secure the Hoffenheim forward. The transfer is expected to be finalized this summer, suggesting his immediate future remains in Germany.
While Barcelona fans hope for a move, reports indicate the Catalan giants are not close to signing Asllani this summer. The contrast between his childhood dream and the looming Dortmund transfer underscores a career at a crossroads, with the Instagram post serving as a reflective milestone.
