Barcelona keep left-footed centre-back option open

Barcelona have not ruled out adding a left-footed centre-back despite a transfer window dominated by attackers. Anthony Gordon has already joined, and the club is pushing for Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva. A defensive partner for Pau Cubarsi is also on the agenda. Sporting director and Hansi Flick’s technical staff agree a left-footed centre-back would give balance to the back line. Earlier in the summer the position was a priority, but the likely renewal of Andreas Christensen and confidence in Ronald Araujo have shifted the focus. Christensen is expected to renew his contract with Barcelona. Any centre-back signing will depend on the club’s ability to move players out and meet financial constraints that also affect the Alvarez and Silva deals. No specific target is being pursued, but Barcelona will act if a suitable option appears. For now, attacking priorities remain ahead of defensive recruitment.
