Barcelona keep Vlahovic as backup if Alvarez deal stalls
Barcelona have extended a free‑agent offer to Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic. The club treat Vlahovic as a contingency rather than a priority while they continue to chase Argentine forward Julian Alvarez.
Hansi Flick needs a No.9 to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left Barcelona after four seasons in the No.9 jersey. The preferred target is Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, but Atletico’s stance and the required financial outlay make the move difficult.
Vlahovic is reportedly seeking a salary of around €8 million per season and a contract of at least two years, which Barcelona consider a significant obstacle. The Serbian striker is unlikely to renew with his current Italian club and has expressed a desire to wear the Blaugrana.
If Barcelona cannot secure Alvarez and Vlahovic accepts the wage terms, he could join as a squad player. Barcelona already have Ferran Torres, whose form also fluctuates. The final striker signing decision is expected in the coming weeks.
