Barcelona locks up defender Christensen with two‑year deal

🇪🇸

Andreas Christensen has signed a two‑year extension with FC Barcelona, keeping the 30‑year‑old Danish centre‑back at the Catalan club until 30 June 2028, as the club officially announced the deal on Wednesday. The contract adds two seasons to his existing deal, which was due to run out in 2026, and secures his services for the foreseeable future.

Christensen arrived at Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer of 2022. Since then he has become an essential part of the back line, praised for his tactical intelligence and defensive solidity. His ability to read the game has helped stabilise the defence.

Over his first four seasons at Camp Nou, the Denmark international has featured in 98 official matches across all competitions. During that period he contributed to three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey triumph and three Spanish Super Cup victories. These honours underline his impact on the club’s recent success.

Christensen’s most recent campaign was disrupted by a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, sidelining him for 158 days. He returned to action on the final matchday of La Liga at Mestalla, completing his comeback in a high‑pressure environment. The injury tested his resilience but did not diminish his standing.

The new contract ensures Barcelona retain a defender recognised at the highest European level. With his capacity to play out from the back and his positional versatility, Christensen is expected to remain a key figure in the club’s sporting project. A ceremony at the club’s offices will mark the official signing, and the 30‑year‑old now looks ahead to his fifth season in the blaugrana colours.
