Barcelona opt against €30m Rashford buyout; open to talks

Barcelona have decided not to activate the €30 million purchase option in Marcus Rashford’s loan agreement, with the clause set to expire in five days. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club’s stance, leaving the England international’s future at Camp Nou uncertain. The club’s refusal to trigger the buyout appears financially motivated, as Barcelona prioritize other squad areas amid unresolved transfer situations. Despite this, Rashford remains valued internally after a productive spell in Catalonia and has expressed openness to extending his stay. Rashford’s preference leans toward remaining at Barcelona over a permanent return to Manchester United. However, competition in attack complicates his future, with Anthony Gordon’s arrival, Raphinha’s role, and Lamine Yamal’s emergence reducing available minutes. Barcelona have not ruled out Rashford entirely, but internal decisions—particularly the pursuit of Julián Álvarez—will heavily influence his prospects. Securing Álvarez from Atlético Madrid is expected to demand significant financial resources, potentially impacting Rashford’s retention. The England international is prepared to defer any decision until after the World Cup, by which time the €30 million clause will have lapsed. Any future agreement would then require fresh negotiations with Manchester United.
