Barcelona's youth push gains a 15‑year‑old midfield prodigy
Barcelona have secured the signing of 15‑year‑old Víctor Barbany from Leganes to reinforce their youth midfield pipeline, a move aimed at bolstering the Cadete A squad after a recent exodus of senior academy graduates. The midfielder completed his contract this week in the presence of family and representatives.
Born on 7 March 2011, Barbany is a Spain Under‑15 international who has quickly become one of the country’s standout prospects. His early performances marked him as a promising talent within the national youth setup.
Before joining Leganes, he spent time in Atletico Madrid’s academy, where his technical quality and maturity in midfield first attracted attention.
Interest from many of Spain’s biggest clubs materialised, but Barcelona ultimately won the race for his signature.
In the summer of 2025 he agreed to join Valencia, yet struggled to settle and returned to Leganes without making a competitive appearance. Back at Leganes he enjoyed an outstanding campaign, helping the club win the Cadet League title.
His performances earned five call‑ups to Spain’s Under‑15 national team, confirming his status among the nation’s elite youngsters. The regional triumph and club success together highlight his rapid development.
The signing was formalised this week, with the youngster confirming the move on Instagram alongside his family and representatives.
Barbany is slated to join Barcelona’s Cadete A squad next season, though the club will monitor his progress and may accelerate his promotion to Juvenil B or even Juvenil A if warranted. This pathway reflects Barcelona’s strategy of fast‑tracking exceptional youth prospects.
