Bayern's record buy: Saibari's €55m move ends PSV saga

🇳🇱
Ismael Saibari has completed a record transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Bayern Munich, with the fee reported between €50 million and €55 million including bonuses, making him the most expensive sale in PSV’s history. The 25‑year‑old attacker joins the German giants ahead of the World Cup knockout stage. The clubs confirmed the deal on Wednesday evening, sealing Saibari’s move to the Bundesliga. PSV’s previous record sale was Cody Gakpo, whose transfer fetched €49 million including bonuses. Saibari arrived in Eindhoven in 2020 for a modest €200,000 after KRC Genk retained a 10 percent sell‑on clause. The Belgian side will now benefit from that clause as part of the Bayern deal. He made his PSV debut under Roger Schmidt and featured regularly for Jong PSV, where he honed his physicality. Under Ruud van Nistelrooij and later Peter Bosz, Saibari’s performances helped PSV secure three consecutive league titles. At the World Cup, the Moroccan forward converted the decisive penalty in a shootout that eliminated the Netherlands. Morocco’s next match is a quarter‑final against Canada, where Saibari will be expected to feature. "Bayern München is een waanzinnig mooie club en ik kijk ernaar uit om daar het gaspedaal vol in te drukken. Tegelijkertijd ga ik veel mensen binnen PSV erg missen. Eindhoven is in de loop der jaren voor mij een thuis geworden. Ik heb hier een onvergetelijke tijd gehad en geweldige kansen gekregen." Saibari expressed mixed emotions about leaving Eindhoven, praising the club’s support. "Hij is een prachtig voorbeeld wat er kan ontstaat op het moment dat talent, karakter en werklust bij elkaar komen," said Earnest Stewart, PSV’s director of football. Stewart called Saibari a role model for combining talent, character and work ethic. Bayern Munich will integrate Saibari into their attacking line‑up, while PSV anticipates future earnings from the sell‑on clause if the Moroccan star moves again. Both clubs view the transfer as a milestone in their recent histories.
