Belgium beats Seattle Sounders 2-1 in closed-door friendly

Belgium's national team, the Rode Duivels, guided by coach Rudi Garcia, clinched a 2-1 win over MLS club Seattle Sounders in a closed‑door friendly on Tuesday, a match played 2,642 days after their 1‑1 draw with Egypt, in preparation for upcoming fixtures.

The fixture was primarily used to grant playing time to squad members who saw little action against Egypt. Striker Romelu Lukaku opened the game, still rebuilding his form after a recent injury spell.

Seattle Sounders seized an early lead, but Belgium restored parity when Axel Witsel headed in the equaliser after a pass from Lukaku. Lukaku later found the net himself, but the goal was ruled out for off‑side.

The decisive strike came from young forward Fernandez‑Pardo, who capitalised on his chance to put Belgium ahead 2-1. His goal secured the victory for the Belgian side.

Rudi Garcia deployed a notable eleven: goalkeeper Senne Lammens guarded the net, while Seys, De Winter, Theate and Moreira formed the back line. In midfield, veteran Axel Witsel partnered Hans Vanaken, and the attack featured Lukebakio, Fernandez‑Pardo, Saelemaekers and Romelu Lukaku.

A limited group of Seattle supporters attended, alongside families of the Belgian players. After the match, Kevin De Bruyne's children kicked a ball on the pitch, and Axel Witsel's family was also present.

Media were excluded from the venue, yet a leak from Seattle confirmed that no injuries occurred during the game. The friendly therefore concluded without any setback for the squad.
