Benfica crush Celtic while Trossard guides Besiktas to victory
At Glasgow's stadium, the sun sets over Celtic as fans await the kickoff of the second matchday of the Europa League group stage. Dodi Lukebakio, in the starting lineup, is preparing to write a new chapter for Benfica, while Leandro Trossard, in form, awaits his decisive role for Besiktas against Hoffenheim.
Benfica wins with flair
On Thursday, Benfica secured a 4-1 victory over Celtic Glasgow. Early in the first half, the Portuguese led 3-0 thanks to a brace from Jhon Duran (5th on penalty, 36th) and a goal from Alexander Bah (23rd). Coach Marco Silva made four substitutions at halftime, including Lukebakio, who returned to the pitch in the 67th minute. Vangelis Pavlidis, who came on as a substitute, sealed the score in the 89th minute.
This performance takes Benfica to six points, placing them third in the group. The win seemed assured at halftime, but the Scots reduced the gap thanks to Camilo Duran (63rd, 3-1) before the final blow.
Besiktas overturns Hoffenheim
In another match, Besiktas beat Hoffenheim 3-2. Leandro Trossard, in the starting lineup, scored in the 57th minute, followed by a brace from Hyeon‑Gyu Oh (72nd, 79th) which allowed the Turks to maintain the lead. Ilhan Fakili had opened the scoring for Hoffenheim in the 56th minute, but Amir Murillo (former Anderlecht) equalised in the 60th minute before the score swung.
Despite a goal from Koki Machida (87th) that narrowed the margin, Besiktas kept their six points, thereby consolidating their position in the group.
