Brentford chase Jaidon Anthony to plug attack after missing Europe
After finishing ninth on goal difference and missing out on European qualification, Brentford are seeking to reinforce their attack ahead of the new Premier League season. The Bees have identified Burnley forward Jaidon Anthony, the 26‑year‑old who has recorded 17 goals and 11 assists in 81 league games for the Clarets, as a prime target.
Anthony contributed nine goals and four assists across 38 appearances in all competitions last season, yet his efforts could not prevent Burnley from being relegated after a single campaign in the top flight. The forward's experience in a promotion‑winning side and his proven goal output make him an attractive option for a Brentford side looking to add firepower.
A London native, Anthony began his career in Arsenal's academy before leaving the club in 2016 without a senior appearance. He later established himself at Bournemouth, following loan spells at Weymouth and Leeds United, and joined Burnley on loan from Bournemouth in 2024 before the move became permanent last summer after an £8 million obligation‑to‑buy clause was triggered. Bees manager Keith Andrews has described Anthony as a good fit for his style of play, and the player himself has welcomed the prospect of returning to London.
Brentford are close to finalising a £15 million fee for Anthony, potentially rising to £17 million with add‑ons. The 26‑year‑old is set to sign a four‑year contract with an option for a further year, and his medical is provisionally scheduled for Monday. The deal follows the Bees' recent acquisition of defender Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg, a transfer reported to be worth up to £16 million including add‑ons.
Anthony's move will be completed once the medical is passed and personal terms are agreed, after which he will join a Brentford squad that opens its league campaign against Tottenham. Burnley, meanwhile, start their Championship return against West Ham on 16 August, a match that will test their ability to rebound after relegation. If the transfer proceeds, Brentford will have added a versatile forward to address the attacking gap that cost them a European spot last season.
