Bristol City chase midfield stability by signing Jed Wallace
Bristol City have secured 32‑year‑old midfielder Jed Wallace on a two‑year contract, filling a gap for seasoned Championship quality after he departed West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season. The former Baggies player logged 140 league appearances and netted 15 goals, offering experience for the club’s upcoming campaign.
Manager Michael Skubala, appointed in May, identified a need for veteran presence in the midfield as part of his squad overhaul. He has already added midfielders Gibson Yah and Sam Greenwood, plus goalkeeper Sam Tickle, underscoring a broader recruitment drive.
Wallace signed a two‑year deal with Bristol City after West Brom chose not to renew his contract at The Hawthorns. His free transfer arrives as the club prepares for the new Championship season.
During his four seasons with West Brom, Wallace made 140 league appearances and scored 15 goals. He previously won the League One play‑offs with Millwall in 2017 and helped West Brom reach the 2023‑24 Championship play‑off semi‑finals, where they were beaten by Southampton.
Speaking to the Bristol City website, Wallace said, “There is a huge opportunity for us this season to achieve something and I hope I can help the leaders here in the group already.” He added, “There will be plenty of ups and downs, so it is important the experienced players in the dressing room hold that together,” while Skubala added, “We know what a brilliant player Jed is and to bring in someone of his quality who has played so much at the level is extremely positive.”
Bristol City open the Championship campaign at home to Millwall on Saturday, 15 August, at 15:00 BST. Wallace’s integration will be tested early as the team seeks to translate his experience into consistent performances.
