Caroline Weir signs three-year deal with Lyon
Scotland captain Caroline Weir has signed a three-year contract with French champions Lyon after leaving Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old midfielder spent four years in Spain, scoring 63 goals in 125 appearances. She was voted Real Madrid player of the year in 2023 and 2025 and was named Spanish league player of the year three years ago.
Lyon have won the French domestic league five seasons in a row, including a league and cup double last term. The club also hold a record eight Champions League titles, though their last triumph came in 2022. Barcelona beat Lyon 4-0 in this season's Champions League final after also eliminating Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Weir has earned 121 caps for Scotland. Her career began at Hibernian before spells at Arsenal, Bristol Academy, Liverpool and Manchester City, before joining Real Madrid. Last year she became the first Scottish player nominated for the Ballon d'Or award.
