Casemiro to join Inter Miami on free transfer after United exit

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is set to join Inter Miami on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expires on June 30, ending months of speculation about his future. The 34‑year‑old will become a free agent and has reached a verbal agreement, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Inter Miami, the reigning Major League Soccer champions, have secured the race to sign Casemiro on a free transfer. The Brazilian midfielder reached a verbal agreement with the club, ending months of speculation. Los Angeles Galaxy also expressed interest in the 34‑year‑old, while clubs in Saudi Arabia were reported to be in the mix. Ultimately, the player chose Miami, according to the transfer specialist. Casemiro is currently on international duty with Brazil, featuring only the first half of the 1‑1 draw against Morocco. He completed the full 90 minutes in the 3‑0 victory over Haiti. He is expected to play a crucial role in Brazil’s final group‑stage match against Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. A draw would suffice for qualification, but a win would secure the Group C top spot. Inter Miami aim to fill the void left by Sergio Busquets, who retired at the end of the 2025 season. The club previously brought in David Ayala from Portland Timbers, who is still adapting, and Yannick Bright has struggled to match his prior level. During his four‑year spell at Manchester United, Casemiro made 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists. He also collected EFL Cup and FA Cup trophies. The transfer is expected to be finalised after the World Cup, adding a massive boost to Miami’s midfield. Casemiro’s experience is seen as a key asset for the MLS side.
