Club Brugge climbs to 17th in UEFA ranking, ahead of United

Club Brugge has climbed to 17th place in UEFA's five‑year coefficient ranking, overtaking Manchester United, AC Milan, Juventus and Benfica with 74,250 points, after a second consecutive season reaching the Champions League group stage. The club still has about 6,000 points to add before the ranking is finalised, which could secure a more favourable draw in Champions League pot 2.

Last season the Belgian side recorded a striking European campaign, beating AS Monaco 4‑1 and Olympique de Marseille 3‑0, while forcing a draw with FC Barcelona before being eliminated from the Champions League group phase again. Those results highlighted Club Brugge's growing competitiveness on the continental stage.

In the subsequent play‑off round for the round of 16, Atletico Madrid proved too strong, ending Bruges' progress, yet the club's performance left a strong impression on observers. The narrow defeat underscored the team's ability to challenge top European opponents.

According to the UEFA coefficient table, Club Brugge currently sits 17th based on points accumulated over the past five years, a position that places it ahead of several traditionally larger clubs. This standing reflects the club's consistent results in both the Champions League and other UEFA competitions.

On the UEFA website the club is listed 19th, but with the pending addition of roughly 6,000 points it is set to rise to the 17th spot, potentially influencing its placement in the Champions League draw. The extra points stem from recent European fixtures that contribute to the coefficient.

During the 2023/24 UEFA Conference League, Club Brugge reached the semi‑finals where they were eliminated by Fiorentina. That semi‑final run generated 21,000 points, about 6,500 points more than the club earned in the current season.

The 2021/22 campaign, soon to be removed from the coefficient calculation, saw Club Brugge finish last in its Champions League group with only four points. Its eventual replacement by newer results may further improve the club's ranking.
