Cody Gakpo wants to leave Liverpool, Tottenham interested
Cody Gakpo has told Liverpool that he wishes to depart Anfield this summer. Tottenham Hotspur have been reported as the Premier League club showing the strongest interest.
The Dutch forward arrived from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. He contributed 18 goals and seven assists in Liverpool’s 2024/25 Premier League title‑winning campaign.
Gakpo signed a new contract in September 2025. Since then he has recorded nine goals and six assists over 3,596 minutes in 52 Premier League appearances.
Tottenham Hotspur retain serious interest, with Roberto De Zerbi admiring Gakpo as part of the club’s rebuild. Gakpo’s ability to operate on the left, centrally and combine physical presence with technical skill suits the Premier League side.
Andoni Iraola’s arrival at Liverpool could provide Gakpo with a fresh tactical platform. Iraola values pressing, aggression and attacking variety, which may unlock qualities not fully maximised last season.
Gakpo’s contract runs until 2030, giving Liverpool a strong negotiating position. Bayern Munich have been linked but are reportedly out after signing Ismael Saibari, while Newcastle United have also been mentioned. Tottenham remain the club with the clearest reported interest.
Retaining Gakpo would give Iraola a technically gifted forward with proven Premier League pedigree. Selling him could free resources to acquire a player better suited to the new manager’s attacking demands. The club must decide whether to meet a potential €60 million fee or move on.
