CR7 quits camp after benching vs Norway, sister sees uncertain future
In the afternoon of a 2-1 victory for Portugal over Norway, Cristiano Ronaldo remained on the bench and, shortly thereafter, left the national team camp due to a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.
Captain's statement
Despite a two‑thousand‑word statement in which the captain expressed a desire to return, the decision to walk away remained unchanged.
Ronaldo's sister, Elma Aveiro, posted today in The Sun a statement that paints a picture of uncertainty: “The probability that he won’t return is greater than that he will return.”
Elma added: “I think both Ronaldo and Jesus are suffering. I speak on behalf of my brother: I believe things have reached a dead‑end and we’ll see what happens.”
She went on to describe the situation as “extremely complicated” and said she feels sad because “the Portuguese people, unfortunately, forget how much has already been done.”
The Portuguese Federation confirmed Ronaldo’s automatic suspension after leaving the camp, but clarified that the captain remains theoretically eligible for selection for the November fixtures.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been watching from home the national team’s successes in the Nations League against Denmark and Norway, leaving the question of his future in the blue shirt open.
