Cristiano Ronaldo scores twice vs Uzbekistan to set new World Cup record
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice against Uzbekistan to reach a historic milestone. The first came after seven minutes, with the second arriving just before half-time. Ronaldo is now the first player to score in six different World Cups.
At 40 years old, Ronaldo extended his own record for most World Cup goals by a Portuguese player. His tally now stands at ten, one more than Eusébio’s previous mark of nine. The achievement cements his place as the nation’s top scorer in the competition’s history.
Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan marked Ronaldo’s 206th international appearance. He has now scored 130 goals for his country, further extending his record as Portugal’s all-time leading scorer.
The match took place in Lisbon on 21 September 2024. Ronaldo’s brace brought his World Cup goal tally to ten across six tournaments, a record unmatched by any other player in history.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez praised Ronaldo’s longevity and consistency. “This is a historic moment for Portuguese football,” Martinez said after the game.
