DAZN's payment cut: provisional ruling caps loss at 85%
After a fresh provisional ruling in the ongoing dispute between streaming platform DAZN and the Pro League, the rights holder is now required to pay 85 percent of the contractually agreed amount for the coming season, a reduction from DAZN’s earlier expectation of roughly €20 million less.
The court's provisional decision was rendered again this week. It addresses the financial obligations arising from the DAZN‑Pro League dispute. The decision is provisional and may be revisited in a final judgment.
According to the ruling, the rights holder must remit 85 percent of the amount stipulated in the contract for the upcoming season. This figure represents the portion of the agreed television revenue that will be paid.
DAZN had anticipated a reduction of roughly €20 million in its payment obligations. The provisional judgment therefore limits the shortfall to a smaller margin.
The parties had feared a larger financial penalty before the decision. The court's calculation prevents a deeper loss for the rights holder.
Both DAZN and the Pro League will need to adjust their budgets for the next campaign based on the 85 percent payment requirement. The ruling closes the immediate uncertainty surrounding the dispute.
