Deniz Undav equalises as Germany draw 1‑1 with Ivory Coast
Deniz Undav, who entered the match as a substitute, found the net to level the game for Germany against Ivory Coast, bringing the score to 1‑1. The goal came after a half‑hour remained, following changes that saw Leweling, Amiri and Undav replace Pavlovic, Musiala and Sané.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann made the changes, bringing Leweling, Amiri and Undav onto the pitch in place of Pavlovic, Musiala and Sané. The German side hoped the fresh faces would revive the attack.
Undav, a VfB star, immediately took charge of the play, linking with Amiri before moving into the penalty area. From Amiri’s pass, Undav volleyed the ball under the crossbar to make it 1‑1.
German supporters erupted in cheers as the equaliser was confirmed. The goal prevented an embarrassment for the DFB team after Ivory Coast had dominated earlier phases.
Undav, who turns 30 on the day of the final, continues to demonstrate his impact as a super‑sub. His performance fuels debate over whether he should start for Germany in future fixtures.
Leweling and Amiri also featured after coming on, while Pavlovic, Musiala and Sané left the field early. Undav needed less than ten minutes after his entry to score.
