Denzel Dumfries set to become Real Madrid left-back
Denzel Dumfries is expected to join Real Madrid as the new left‑back, a move that could push Alvaro Carreras out of the starting lineup. Jose Mourinho is reported to have requested the Dutch defender after expressing dissatisfaction with current options. Photo by Marco Luzzani.
Real Madrid also plan to sign Ibrahima Konate, a routine replacement for David Alaba in central defence. The club’s summer rebuild targets at least two defenders.
Alvaro Carreras has struggled since returning to the Bernabeu in 2025, with inconsistent form and injuries limiting his impact. Abraham P. Romero notes that his status could be jeopardised if a new left‑back arrives. Carreras enjoys considerable clout in the Premier League; Manchester United hold a cut‑price option, while Liverpool and Arsenal have shown interest in the past. Carreras began his senior career at SL Benfica before moving to Manchester United. Aitor Alcalde provides additional imagery.
If Dumfries becomes the first‑choice left‑back, Carreras may seek an early exit from Real Madrid. His future could hinge on a move back to England.
