Diogo Sousa signs five-year deal with Strasbourg
Portuguese midfielder Diogo Sousa, 20, has completed a move to Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg Alsace, signing a five-year contract on Wednesday for a reported €10 million fee. The 20-year-old, a Portugal Under-21 international, will join the squad when they resume pre-season training on 8 July.
RC Strasbourg Alsace are currently without a manager, yet the club says this will not hinder preparations for the upcoming season. The departure of Gary O’Neil to Ipswich Town was described as a surprise by insiders at the French side.
Club officials expect to name a new head coach within the next ten days. The timeline aims to align the appointment with the start of pre‑season activities.
RC Strasbourg Alsace will reconvene for pre‑season training on 8 July. Diogo Sousa is slated to join the squad upon its return.
Sousa is a product of Vitória’s academy and has earned two caps for Portugal’s Under‑21 side. He made his professional debut with Vitória in September 2025 before moving to Gil Lameiras.
At Gil Lameiras, Sousa started 15 of his 28 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist. His performances helped Os Conquistadores secure comfortable survival in the Primeira Liga and win the League Cup.
The transfer fee was not disclosed publicly, though reports suggest it is around €10 million. The five‑year contract ties the 20‑year‑old to Strasbourg until 2029.
