Dortmund set to trigger Asllani clause as Barcelona miss out

Borussia Dortmund are ready to trigger the €30 million release clause for 23‑year‑old striker Fisnik Asllani, a move that would deny FC Barcelona a low‑cost alternative to Robert Lewandowski. The Kosovo international finished the season with 11 goals and ten assists in 35 matches for Hoffenheim.

Dortmund have built a reputation for spotting and nurturing Europe’s brightest young talents, and Asllani is their latest target. The 23‑year‑old also attracted interest from Bayern Munich before the German club moved quickest to secure his signature.

FC Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and the recruitment department have been monitoring Asllani as a possible long‑term No 9. Standing 1.91 metres tall, the striker’s blend of physical presence, mobility and technical quality was seen as compatible with Hansi Flick’s tactical demands.

At Hoffenheim, Asllani played a crucial role in the club’s qualification for the Europa League. He ended the campaign with 11 goals and ten assists across 35 appearances in all competitions.

While the Catalan side continues to chase world‑class options such as Julian Alvarez, they will now have to look elsewhere for affordable attacking reinforcements. Deco indicated the club will keep monitoring emerging forwards capable of becoming Barcelona’s next leading striker.
