Elliott Management under fire over Lille and Milan
Rumours are circulating that Elliott Management, the fund that owned AC Milan until 2022, may have exerted influence over LOSC. At first glance, analysts are mentioning Rennes or Bournemouth as more likely partners, but the question of a common owner for Lille and Milan persists.
UEFA Regulations and Dual Participation
Article 5 of the UEFA regulations prohibits the same person from exercising decisive influence in the decision‑making of two clubs qualified for the same European competition. The two teams thus fell under the organisation's scrutiny, having contested the 2021‑2022 Champions League and the Europa League in 2020 and 2021.
On Monday, L’Équipe reported that an executive of the fund that owns Milan would have overseen LOSC's expenditures. Transfers such as Renato Sanches, Sven Botman or André Onana were allegedly mediated by members of the Italian club's governance.
“We can deny that there is Elliott financing at the Callisto level when the question is raised. […]. The regulator will come down on us,” said a director of a company that owns LOSC.
Since the end of the Gérard Lopez era in 2020, the French club has been owned by companies domiciled at Elliott Management in the United States. Today, Lille insists that Elliott has no link with it, which the investment fund confirms.
