Fabio Vieira trains as Arsenal, Hamburg discuss €20m option
Midfielder Fabio Vieira, 26, is training alone with a private coach while Arsenal and Hamburg negotiate his future after a loan that saw him finish as Hamburg’s top scorer with seven goals. The loan included a €20‑22m purchase option, yet Hamburg can only offer close to €10m in instalments, far below Arsenal’s €35m original fee.
Vieira missed out on representing Portugal at the World Cup despite his productive season in Germany. He has expressed a desire to return to Hamburg for pre‑season training rather than wait for Arsenal’s later preparations.
Hamburg’s reported budget of around €10m contrasts with Arsenal’s record transfer outlay of €14m, a level they have reached only four times. Arsenal, who paid €35m for Vieira, are not prepared to accept an offer below his current valuation of €18m.
According to , both clubs are working toward a permanent transfer but no agreement is close. Rumours also suggest interest from other Premier League clubs, adding further complexity to the negotiations.
Vieira maintains his fitness with a private trainer at the Boost Campus, overseen by former professional Claudio Borges. Photographs by Stuart Franklin and Lars Baron capture the midfielder’s solitary training sessions.
If the deal materialises, Vieira would report for Hamburg’s pre‑season performance tests on July 6 and 7. Otherwise, he is set to join Arsenal’s own preparations later in the summer.
