Fabrizio Romano: Micky van de Ven untouchable for Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano clarified Liverpool’s reported interest in Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, stating the Tottenham centre‑back is considered untouchable this summer and that no exit is expected despite earlier rumours of serious interest from the Reds and Barcelona in the transfer window.

Liverpool’s recruitment staff had been monitoring van de Ven before his transfer from Wolfsburg to Tottenham. The Dutch defender’s quickness, left‑footedness and Premier League experience matched several of the Reds’ scouting criteria.

Dutch media reported that both Liverpool and Barcelona had registered serious interest in the centre‑back. Some outlets even suggested Liverpool had made a formal enquiry about the player.

Romano said, “Many questions I’m getting coming out of the Dutch press. With maximum respect to anyone who has their own information or own news.” He added that “Micky van de Ven linked with Liverpool? What I can say is that he is considered a crucial player by Tottenham management and Roberto De Zerbi – same as Pedro Porro who signed a new contract.”

Romano continued, “He’s completely untouchable and they want van de Ven to stay. So the expectation is no movements around Micky van de Ven in this summer transfer window.” He warned that any future change would be reported.

The interest in van de Ven highlights Liverpool’s preference for defenders with athleticism, recovery pace and comfort on the ball. Van de Ven can defend large spaces, carry the ball aggressively and provide balance on the left side of a central defence. Such attributes would suit the tactical demands of Liverpool’s back line.

Tottenham have no obvious reason to sell the young, valuable centre‑back who is tied to their project and already proven in England. Consequently, if Liverpool are serious about strengthening at centre‑back, they may need to look elsewhere rather than wait for a door that is currently locked. Romano’s update therefore aims to calm the speculation surrounding the potential move.
