Failed €5.5m move leaves Obispo at PSV ahead of German camp

PSV have been left with a void in central defence after speculation of a departure, and 27‑year‑old Armando Obispo will remain to fill that gap as he heads to the club’s training camp in Germany on Tuesday following a €5.5 million move to RC Lens that fell apart at the last minute.

Lens initially offered €4 million for the defender, a proposal PSV turned down. The French club later increased the bid to €5.5 million, which PSV accepted, signalling the club’s willingness to let the player leave.

Despite PSV’s acceptance, the transfer money will not reach the Dutch side because negotiations between Obispo and the prospective employer broke down, preventing the move to France from being completed.

Obispo, a PSV player who has already logged 130 first‑team appearances, had already separated from his teammates before the collapse, underscoring his importance as an experienced central defender for the Eindhoven outfit.

His continued presence also keeps him in the Dutch national team pool, a factor the club values given his international experience.

The failed deal mirrors other recent PSV transfer setbacks, including the aborted move of Adamo Nagalo to Turkey’s Corum FK and the earlier collapse of Ricardo Pepi’s switch to Fulham.

Nagalo will not join PSV’s Merienfeld base this week, leaving the club to search for a solution to the surplus in defence, while Obispo will report to the German training camp on Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming season.
