FC Barcelona sues Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for slander
FC Barcelona have launched legal proceedings against Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for alleged slander. The club filed a conciliation request before a criminal complaint under Article 205 of the Penal Code.
Perez held a press conference on May 12 and, in a follow‑up interview, claimed Barcelona had stolen multiple La Liga titles through referee favouritism linked to the Negreira scandal. He accused Barça of title theft and suggested referee bias.
Barcelona’s statement demands that Perez retract the statements, labeling them false and offensive to the club’s reputation. The club warned that failure to comply will trigger a criminal lawsuit.
The dispute follows Real Madrid’s ongoing campaign against the Negreira case, including a dossier sent to UEFA alleging preferential treatment for Barcelona. Relations between the two institutions remain fully broken.
