Fenerbahce slam false Chelsea link as Gittens' future hangs in balance

Fenerbahce released an angry statement on Saturday denying any interest in signing Chelsea star Jamie Gittens, a rumor that had circulated after the English winger was linked to a move to the Turkish giants this summer, only a year after arriving in the Premier League.

Fenerbahce's swift denial

The club wrote that reports of its interest were “completely unfounded” and warned that attempts to manipulate Fenerbahçe Sports Club through false transfer claims would have no effect. It added that its sporting structure, transfer policy and future planning are carried out according to its own strategy, needs and established programmes.

Fenerbahce also reminded supporters that its sole focus at the moment is the upcoming match against Gençlerbirliği in the first week of the Trendyol Super League, urging fans to disregard the unfounded news and continue supporting the Club.

Gittens' first season at Chelsea

Getty noted that the 22‑year‑old English winger made 27 appearances for the Blues after joining from Borussia Dortmund for a total fee of £51.5 million. He arrived at Stamford Bridge having impressed in the German Bundesliga.

During those 27 outings he scored one goal and provided five assists, but his debut season was disrupted by a hamstring injury that kept him out for more than 100 days and caused him to miss 22 games, with his last competitive appearance coming on 31 January.

New manager Xabi Alonso has already used Gittens in five of Chelsea’s six pre‑season friendlies, and the player could feature in the Premier League opener against Fulham on Monday, 24 August.

TalkSPORT will broadcast the Fulham match, with commentary from Sam Matterface and former England midfielder Danny Murphy, and the station can be heard on 1089 or 1053 AM.
