FIFA launches probe into post‑final melee starring Leandro Paredes
FIFA said the investigation will focus on events that took place after the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. The governing body issued the statement without naming the specific incident.
According to the Associated Press, the probe concerns a hand melee in which Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes played a central role. The AP report described the incident as involving a physical confrontation after the final whistle.
Video shows Paredes falling after the match ended when Spanish defender Eric García grabbed him by the throat. Gavi was then knocked over with the assistance of his teammate Enzo Fernández.

Initial reports suggested Paredes received a red card for his involvement in the melee. FIFA later confirmed to the BBC that no card was shown to Paredes at that moment.
FIFA has appointed a prosecutor for disciplinary and ethical matters, as stipulated in article 36 of its own disciplinary code. The appointment is intended to oversee the investigation and any subsequent proceedings.
