Florentino Perez Re‑elected as Real Madrid President
Florentino Perez has been re‑elected as president of Real Madrid. He secured 65 percent of the vote against challenger Enrique Riquelme. The 79‑year‑old president extended his mandate at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The vote was the first contested election for Real Madrid in two decades. It marked the first genuine contest since 2004 after five unopposed cycles. More than 100,000 Madrid members were eligible to vote.
Perez called the election despite an active mandate that runs until 2029. He framed the ballot as a chance to reaffirm support after a campaign that ended without a major trophy. After the result, Perez described the outcome as one of the strongest electoral performances in the club’s history.
Perez confirmed that Jose Mourinho will be appointed as the new manager following his re‑election. An official announcement of Mourinho’s return is expected in the coming days. Perez also signalled plans to reinforce multiple areas of the squad in the upcoming transfer market.
Enrique Riquelme, a 37‑year‑old entrepreneur, said his campaign highlighted important issues for the club’s future direction. He warned about potential external investment and called for governance reforms.
Perez now begins another chapter with the expectation of delivering trophies. He will oversee Mourinho’s return and guide the club through a pivotal summer.
